Washington State GEAR UP is a partnership of the Governor’s Office and the Washington Student Achievement Council. We know that students and their families must have access to high-quality and meaningful experiences and resources to be prepared to continue their education beyond high school and achieve their dreams.

TO THIS END, WE HAVE ENLISTED THE SUPPORT OF THESE STRATEGIC PARTNERS:

12th Year Campaign, College Bound Scholarship (CBS), Supplemental Education Transition Planning Program (SETuP): provide support to students, families, and staff related to the College Application Campaign & FAFSA/WASFA events, increasing CBS sign-up rates, and increasing foster youth college readiness.

College Spark: provides support for increased academic rigor and increase metacognitive skills through training on Agile Mind Intensified Algebra I and Academic Youth Development programs.

Mentoring Works: provides training and support to increase the number of schools that are providing Check & Connect mentoring to address chronic absenteeism, low academic performance, and dropout risk.

Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction: provides Career Guidance WA curriculum materials and support to implement the guidance counseling and advising program in all schools. OSPI will also provide resources to implement the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support and will continue to support data collection efforts from CEDARS.

State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC): provides communication and materials regarding 2-year and technical college information, the transfer process, student life, support for commuters, dual credit, placement tests, summer melt prevention, and guided pathways. Efforts will help students better prepare for the transition to postsecondary education, reduce the need for remediation, and increase the number of students enrolled in college.

Washington College Access Network (WCAN): provides the Go Alliance Academy College and Career Advising Curriculum, a series of online modules to increase the number of educators trained in college and career advising, building the capacity of schools to provide comprehensive services to students to ensure increased preparation and planning for postsecondary success.

Workforce Training and Education Coordinating Board (WTECB) and Washington STEM: provide access to free career exploration resources to support student engagement in college and career research activities to support college visit selection and improve student decision making regarding college fit and match.

Public Colleges/Universities: host campus events including grade-level appropriate campus visits, including summer events, transition support, and summer melt prevention activities through customized orientations, bridge programs, and First-Year Experience.

Student Services/Student Leadership/College Readiness Training Partners: Experienced youth development student services providers (FOCUS Training and Seeds Training) support building metacognitive skills, leadership capacity, and increasing grit and persistence of GEAR UP students. Daylong school-year workshops and multi-day summer opportunities will be offered at middle/high school and postsecondary campuses throughout the grant cycle. Trainers will integrate summer campus experiences with youth development and college knowledge topics. These efforts will significantly increase the number of students who are socially/emotionally prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary school.

Washington State Employees Credit Union (WSECU): provides support for financial literacy and the 12th Year Campaign.
