Each year participating ProStart students showcase their talents in culinary and restaurant management in front of Chef and industry judges at the Boyd’s Coffee® ProStart Invitational. Students compete for thousands of dollars in scholarships and the chance to go to nationals.

This year Lewis and Clark High school had 5 GEAR UP students compete and place 2nd in state for Restaurant Management during the ProStart Competition. The Boyd's Coffee ProStart Invitational took place February 27th & 28th in Lakewood, WA.  These five GEAR UP students were able to tour the University of Puget Sound campus. In addition, they were able to visit a local establishment and meet with the manager who discussed her college and career story with them.  The students had an incredible experience thanks to their teacher and sophomore class advisor, Nancy Jewett, who went out of her way to plan extra activities for them as GEAR UP students.
